US MODEL 1840 CAVALRY SABER

German import by Clement & Jung as purchased by both sides at the beginning of the Civil War, with maker’s mark to the ricasso.  Standard pattern, The American Sword, Peterson #32 with three bar brass hilt showing mottled patina. Grip excellent, a little dry. Blade smooth with original cross polish, the surface with gray patina and minor blemishes only. This pattern is much rarer than the 1860 cavalry saber.
