Anglo-Sudanese War (Mahdist War). Unusual proportions with 16 7/8" forged d.e. blade, triple fullered with opposing crescents each side. One side with chiseled inscription as well. Iron cross guard with reverse langets. Hilt bound in leather, the grip of twisted strands and the pommel disk form with contrasting leather edge matching the grip base band. Brown/black tooled leather scabbard with matching tan leather accents, complete with its original shoulder strap, waist cords and tassels. Fine genuine aging and no damage. Probably a regional variation and worth comparing the well-known variation short version with thuluth script to the light weight flat blades and cast bronze guards. Only example of its type we have seen and fine specimen.
