ROMAN SILVER TREE OF LIFE AMULET

C 1st-4th century AD. Just under 1” (0.97”) width of silver alloy somewhat lower than Sterling which is 92.5% silver. (European standards vary but none is pure silver.) Modeled in relief with its domed crest and upturned roots. Pierced forming a heart and arguably a cross, the form was later used by Vikings for lunar worship. The Tree of Life is a fundamental concept dating to at least 2000 BC and found in most ancient mythologies. This example silver, as found and not plated.
