Fine quality gilt hilt and mounts with enamel and pigmented accents. The central cross to the scabbard with enamel chipped. Monogrammed composite grip. 28” blade finely decorated with foliage, knights, CAMBRIDGE COMMANDERY, owner’s name and maker’s name, Bent & Bush Boston (Est 1841 and active through the Civil War and after) on gold ground.  The scabbard with presentation inscription: Presented to Emt. Charles R Putnam by Sir Knights of Cambridge Commandery, K.T. Cot 25, 1910. The blade, however, identifies the owner as Emt. Charles R  Putman. Surely the source of much embarrassment at the presentation and a tribute to the owner that he used it as is. Fine patina throughout with minor smooth finger staining to the blade tip.
