Early example of quality construction. The hilt of characteristic stylized animal form, evidently wood, completely sheathed in brass panels, deeply chiseled in scrolling motifs on chiseled ground and details of the rudimentary form animal head. Complete, with all seams tight, just one eye" slightly dented from use. Iron bolster and very thick 12 3/8" wedge section, both with brass inlays and chiseled panels. Excellent well aged condition with some very superficial edge nicks, probably from knife fighting. Original two piece wood scabbard deeply carved with matching central motif and hound's tooth panels. Surface worn with the tip splintered. Quality example with wonderful age character.
