9th century, Cambridgeshire England. Bronze, with a rounded face and of 3.6-4.7mm width. Made with a central core to distribute the molten metal and heat. The core was then laboriously removed by hand with the remnants still visible and surface lamination from the casting process. Wonderful primitive character. Vikings exchanged rings on the pommel of the groom's sword. Professionally refurbished with the 24karat gold surface restored.
