FINE EUROPEAN CRUSADER’S SIDE KNIFE, 12TH CENTURY

Forge iron, 7 1/8” length with 4 ½” clipped point blade drawing its inspiration from the earlier scramseax. The root with brass grip stops, characteristic for this period. Excellent preservation but for the grip sales which have perished. The blade of thin fighting section and definitely not a working or utility knife. Probably used as a misericord to dispatch wounded enemy on the battlefield.
