Charming folk art example of faceted horn, 2 ¼” width. Elongated octagonal form, tapered with the facets as bordered panels. The front with scratched date 1794. The bottom with inset oval mirror. The top inset with a picture of a flower and another, stained. The top and bottom both with engraved borders and wood peg piques. The top with lifting ring. The date was clearly added by an owner and, as with powder horns, may commemorate an event, thus post dating the box. By form, style and character, this easily qualifies as a Revolutionary War example.
