19th-early 20th century. Just 6 ¾" length!! Beautifully made with black over purple silk, embroidered with leaf and flowered branches visited by butterflies. Stiffened fabric body. Layered contrasting soles meant to be viewed as the lady reclined. Sound and retaining their shape with light wear to the silk and embroidery. Soles show a little use with one tip worn. Just a little wear as the owner was unable to walk and they were worn when seated in the belief that being incapacitated as such, indicating the owner's status by dedication to idleness.
