This ring is from a well known group shown in Ancient Rings page 140. Most are themed with a heart, cross and anchor and are identified as sailor’s rings. The hearts, in fact, and not noted op cit, are the Catholic Sacred heart with flame at the top. This ring has two such hearts on the bezel, surrounded by a wreath. The delicate split band indicates wear by a woman and it is almost certainly a sweetheart ring, given to bind a relationship in the absence of a man. Those bearing anchors were obviously given by seamen and this, was probably given by a soldier, perhaps during the Revolution. It is size 9 ¾ with 3.6mm stipple edged band. It is professionally refurbished, encased in 24 karat gold and jewelry gift boxed with a certificate of authenticity
