US M.1860 STAFF & FIELD OFFICER'S SWORD

Peterson #121. Standard pattern carried by Union sergeants in the Civil War. Brass hilt with eagle pommel and guard. The left side with folding stars and bars motif guard. (The spring mechanism complete but stuck. Can be freed with penetrating oil.) Floral motif knuckle bow. Spirally ray skin covered grip with twisted wire wrap. 28 3/4” d.e. diamond section blade , decorated first half with foliage and military arms. The forte with retailer’s name W. A.  Raymold New York N. Y. Good clean example with great Civil War character. Blade shows glossy gray patina. Brass mounted scabbard. The body plating textured with a couple small spots lacking.
