Period of Mehmed IV-Suleiman II. Oval bronze, 7/8" width with chiseled cursive Arabic signature in reverse to wax seal documents. Reverse with a contoured post grip, the tip pierced and mounted with an iron ring, probably a mail link for suspension. Indicative of a noble owner as commoners would seldom endorse documents.  After the Battle of Vienna in 1683, 20,000 wagon loads of Ottoman booty were gathered. Thus, it is almost certain that any surviving 17th-century Turkish weapons or accoutrements such as this was part of that massive booty.
