Late 10th-11th century AD, the late period of Viking pagan mythology. Formed as a crescent representing the moon which was sacred to Vikings both for navigating and as the source of light for nocturnal sailing and raiding. It is just under 1” (0.89”) width of rounded edge crescent form, the field with radial or sunburst motif, a typical Viking motif. The crescent tips expanded, symbolizing Sol the sun and Mani the moon. Surface lightly textured from burial. Professionally refurbished with the 24karat gold overlay restored, on an 18” modern gilt Sterling silver neck chain. Jewelry gift boxed with certificate of authenticity.
