VIKING HEART RING,10-11TH CENTURY, SIZE 8 1/4

Gilt bronze, 2.9mm rounded face band, slightly flared to the shoulders which are hand engraved in a reeded pattern, Raised heart (natural form) bezel with stacked ovals flanked by semicircles. That motif is taken from Christianity and in a form associated with the Star of Bethlehem and the cross. At the time, Vikings were coexisting with Christians and some were converted. Christian symbols were embraced and frequently incorporated by Vikings, both converted and practicing Old Norse paganism. Professionally refurbished with the 24karat gold overlay restored for contemporary wear. Gift boxed with a certification of authenticity.
