Black japanned papier-mâché, 4” long of rounded end rectangular form. The top with piano hinge and remnants of a paper overlaid scene including silver sparkles. Used in a colonial home for either snuff or pipe tobacco, preferred by the owner. See Collector’s Illustrated Encyclopedia of the American Revolution, Neumann, p.245.  Expected wear form use but otherwise very sound and tight.
