RARE MOGHUL BATTLE AXE 17TH-EARLY 18TH CENTURY

Period of Saha Jahan and Aurangzeb. See A Glossary of the Construction, Decoration and Use of Arms and Armor, Stone, fig. 101 #7. All steel, 20 ½” length. Iron haft in four ranks, two slightly tapered, of faceted section flanking a spirally twisted segment. Clearly showing European influence as the Moghul court was in contact with Europe. Backswept medially ridged bit with square hammer poll opposite. Waisted diamond section fore spike. Wonderful age patina.
