GOOD ITALIAN MUSKETEER'S POWDER FLASK C.1600

Particularly elegant example of so-called triangular form. 10 5/8" height. Cloth covered wood body with the edges secured in angled iron members. The sides gracefully curved and the front in a single plate pierced and embossed with foliage and floral baskets surrounding a central cartouche with an armorial device of two wolves. A demonic mask below. The top with a long spout and elegant spring cap and lever. The base with a scroll handled sprung cutoff. The back with about 50% cloth covering intact. The sides, bottom and front with considerably more remaining. The metal, particularly the top with its mounts, showing a fine blue faded to brown patina. Really charming.
