This website uses cookies to ensure you get the best experience on our website.

Iron head with curved edge bit. The top ends with small points for catching an opponent’s blade. Flared edge oval eye and hammer back. Wood haft with dry slightly flaking surface. The butt shaped for a metal cone tip, long lost and the wood aged consistent with the rest of the haft.  While of great age, the haft is likely not as old as the head. A recent episode of National Geographic’s "Vikings: Rise and Fall" showed a Viking warrior carrying an axe nearly identical to this. Overall length is 47 3/4".
