INDIAN CRESCENT POINT ARROWHEAD

South Indian probably Maratha. About 6 1/4” length with forged tool finished tang and cylindrical bolster to the broad crescent form point. The Maratha were to opponents of the Moghuls until the 19^th century when British dominance overruled both powers. The purpose of these arrows is the subject of debate. Indeed, double-pointed arrows were used throughout history by numerous cultures with no clear history of their purpose. One theory is that they inflicted a vicious wound prone to infection rather than the clean puncture of a conventional arrow.
