Rare variation of a favorite Viking form. The coil or helix was a favorite Viking figure which probably had spiritual significance. Evidently the coil or overlapping form was used to avoid the closed circle form. By contrast, Viking wedding rings were always of the closed circular form, sometimes with a spiral or helix superimposed. This example represents an extreme with a circle and a third overlap with addorsed tapered terminals. The surface is textured from burial and the silver overlay restored for modern wear. Gift boxed with certificate of authenticity.
