MOUNTAIN MAN SKINNING KNIFE C.1870-80

Handmade, from the New England cottage producers who supplied the Western Movement after the Civil War. General form as popularized by the Green River factory in Greenfield, Massachusetts, but slightly longer with 5 5/8" blade. Shorter clipped tip. Wood scale grips well-worn from use. Blade with evidence of sharpening and minor loss to the edge. Classic example of early American industrialism supplying the Post Civil War Western movement.
