Item Number: na135
19th century or earlier.  7 1/8” total length with 5 1/2” steel blade of proper proportions and section.  Elegantly proportioned hilt, with fluted and radially pierced cup, entirely hand finished.  Silver guard, grip and pommel, all hand detailed silver with delicately delineated gold overlay segments including the cross guard outside the quillon block, quillon terminal buttons. Central shield motif to the quillon block knuckle bow less the medial devise, pommel foot and button and over wind of the grip binding (front only).  The gold of orange “9 ct” hue and evidently fire gilt judging from its intricacy.  Absolutely charming-its purpose (and exact age) unknown.  Likely a wealthy man’s (or woman’s) toy for a curio cabinet in response to the enthusiasm for exploration of the late 18th and early 19th centuries.  Entirely hand made and unique
