Made for a prince!  RARE INDIAN ZAFAR TAKIEH.  Concealed dagger  arm rest used by Indian Kings and princes when giving audience.  See Stone page 683 and figure 873 # 4 which is nearly identical.  17th century from Tanjore, (capitol of Tamil Nadu and seat of the Chola Empire).   22 1/2” height, the tapered shaft covered in parchment with congealed/crackled surface with fine mottled age patina.  Silver base mount.  Silver locking joint which supports the carved wood arm rest with carved parrot head terminals as with the Stone example.  The socket opens to present a 13 3/4” concealed blade of heavy tapered section  with expanded ricasso.  The Stone example is mounted with a European rapier blade (shortened).  This example has either a European blade (perhaps from a Portuguese main gauche) or Indian copy.  Indian copies of European blades were common, particularly in the South.  See item na72 for another example.  Condition commensurate with it age and use.  The Stone example is in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and this is the only example in private hands that know of.
