NORTHERN EUROPEAN BETROTHAL RING.

1550-1650.  Bronze, originally gilt, ring of the style popularized in the 16th century.  Examples set with cut glass and diamonds are recorded.  This example served a more modest owner by replicating those luxurious specimens in metal only.  The central diamond flanked by nub clusters replicate the stone or glass flanked by enamel insets.  In this example the central diamond had crossed ridges further  identifying it with the stone original.  Fine green patina.  Size 8.
