IRON SLAVE LOCKING SHACKLE C.1850

Single leg iron as was used with a connecting link to form the “train” of slaves when they were shackled in large groups,  when they were captured, transported on slave ships or sold.  Wrought iron, entirely hand forged with broad rounded frame with ring terminals forged solid, connecting to good quality forged drum lock.  Rich brown patina over old wear suggesting repeated use in the slave trade rather than plantation use.
