DYAK HEADHUNTER’S FLESHING KNIFE

 Second half of the 19th century. 16 1/8” total length with acutely pointed 3 7/8” wedge section blade.  Wood haft with polished bone terminal shows good patina throughout.  Pitch encased socket with wire wrap below.  Head shows light gray patina.  The companion knife to the mandau and used in preparation of the severed heads.  It is kept in a bark sheath attached to the mandau scabbard and usually is missing from antique mandaus.
